In approaching Footloose, I conducted workshops with Cumberland Valley High School students to first and foremost understand the material. The cultural legacy of Footloose is that it's "fun" and "high energy". What is usually forgotten is that it's a story of a community grieving the loss of young lives.

Producing Footloose in a year when many high schools were having their first musical since spring 2019 led to unmatched enthusiasm and generosity from these young performers. Their production, as they came to view it, was about "hope".
