For my first production as the production dramaturg with Cumberland Valley High School, I led group discussions with actors to highlight the feminist lens that book writer Douglas Carter Beane approached this new adaptation with. The amazing artists at Cumberland Valley were granted permission to recreate Anna Louizos' original scenic design from the 2013 Broadway production.
This production in particular should be commended for its ability to have existed. Held over from the 2020 school year, this production occurred over a year after its intended dates. Limited audience members were asked to mask, while performers wore clear face shields. The general public viewed this production on a livestream, with audiences joining in from around the world, much like the original 1957 telecast with Julie Andrews. Dramaturgical Materials
