Hi!
I'm Frederick, or "Freddie"! I'm a dramaturg, theatre historian, and producer, based in Pittsburgh, PA. I'm currently in grad school at the University of Pittsburgh, where I'm pursuing my PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies. Outside of school, I work as a freelance dramaturg with my consulting service, The Musical Theatre Dramaturg. Besides theatre, I love rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates, visiting second-hand bookstores, and writing in coffee shops.
I earned my MA in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Pittsburgh in 2024. At Pitt, I've served as the Vice President of Communications for the Eleonora Duse Society and a dramaturg on multiple Pitt Stages productions, including the Pittsburgh premiere of John Proctor is the Villain and the collegiate premiere of Abduction: A New Musical.

As an undergrad at the nationally recognized Penn State School of Theatre, I believed in community building, serving on the SoT's Student Advisory Board for 3 years, and as President of the BA Society for 2 years. I also served as the production dramaturg on multiple Penn State Centre Stage productions, including To Kill a Mockingbird (directed by Tony nominee Susan H. Schulman), Angels in America, A Little Night Music, and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party.
Outside of the SoT, I worked as a stage manager at Schwab Auditorium for 3 years and was active in student clubs, including No Refund Theatre and the Penn State Thespian Society. In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, I created the State Radio Players, serving as the founding artistic director and producing radio plays featuring Penn State student actors among other digital opportunities.

I'm a proud native of Mechanicsburg, PA, having graduated from Cumberland Valley High School in 2018. I still work with my alma mater, serving as the resident dramaturg for Cumberland Valley High School Musical Productions, and an invited teaching artist with the district's drama programs. In 2017, I served as an intern at Keystone Theatrics, the company in residence at the historic Allenberry Playhouse, and continued in various roles throughout college, including an actor, stage manager, and teaching artist. Today, I am Keystone Theatrics' resident dramaturg for the playhouse and serve as the producer for their summer cabaret series, curating song selections and talent.
My work as a dramaturg has led me on some pretty cool adventures, including working as the resident dramaturg for the J2 Spotlight Musical Theatre Company in New York City. J2 Spotlight produces Off-Broadway revivals of American musicals that have faded in the pages of the history books. Through this, I've gotten to work with writers such as Stephen Schwartz, Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, and David Zippel on revivals of some of their early works. In New York, I've also gotten to serve as a script writer on multiple concerts at the historic Feinstein's/54 Below. Credits include the 70th anniversary concert of Wonderful Town, the 50 Key Stage Musicals: The Concert series, and 54 Below Celebrates Fame! The Movie.
