The High School Musical Podcast was started in August 2024 as an educational tool for high school musical programs looking for quick, "just the facts," information about the shows they're producing. We lovingly call it "drive-by dramaturgy."
Each episode is 15-20 minutes in length and covers a different, high-profile musical commonly produced by programs around the country. The first season includes newer hits like Shrek the Musical, Beauty and the Beast, and The Addams Family, as well as classics such as Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, and Oklahoma! Students will learn about the writers of the show, its production history, the cultural relevance of the musical, and any tips and tricks for their upcoming audition.
The High School Musical Podcast is made possible due to generous funding from Humanities Engage at the University of Pittsburgh. The podcast streams on both Spotify AND YouTube.
In addition to the weekly episodes, streaming exclusively on Spotify is The High School Musical Podcast: After the Bell. Each week, a special guest will discuss the musical of the week and be put to the test on what they know.
